Tesla is finally putting a date on one of the automotive industry's longest-running promises.
The next-generation Tesla Roadster will be unveiled on October 1, 2026, nearly nine years after Elon Musk first introduced the second-generation electric sports car as a prototype in 2017.
The upcoming event could be very different from a conventional Tesla product launch. Reports surrounding the Roadster program indicate that Tesla may demonstrate a vehicle equipped with SpaceX-related cold-gas thrusters, potentially allowing a remotely operated Roadster to briefly leave the ground.
Those details have not all been publicly confirmed by Tesla as final production specifications. The October 1 event should therefore be watched closely for confirmation of what technology will actually be demonstrated and which features will make it into customer vehicles.
